We Are Quilted Together

Installation on view May 4th - September 3rd, 2023

Handmade quilts and clothing are manifestations of love. My mother and grandmother crafted these items for their families, so with my recent work I pay tribute to the lineage of women makers I come from. Like my grandmother’s patchwork quilts, my series of “quilt dresses” are made from fabrics readily available to me - my worn dresses cut apart, reconfigured, and sewn back together. They may visually take the form of dresses, but they are unwearable, fixed when quilted. Materially, the completed quilts are saturated with personal memories I have from once wearing the three to six different dresses they’re each made from and are a way of seeing my various selves together at once. As a woman with an incredible capacity for love and affection who has chosen not to have children, I often wonder, “Where does all that love go?”. My work attempts to answer that question, satisfy that need, and create work representing my desire to express my overwhelming maternal love as a childless woman.

Last Chance for a Sun by Angela Guerra Walley

Last Chance for a Sun: A Poetry Collection
Angela Guerra Walley’s debut poetry collection, Last Chance for a Sun, includes nearly seventy original poems celebrating the many aspects of love, from the affectionate to the erotic. A candid, sexy, and deeply personal series of poems, this collection bridges a gap between Walley’s therapeutic personal journaling and her band Dreambored’s cathartic song lyrics.
